Project Background:
The Han Dynasty Pottery Tower is a brilliant gem of ancient Chinese funerary art, serving as a miniature, tangible model of the manor economy and sophisticated architectural skills of the Han era. These national-treasure-level artifacts, housed in museums, carry profound historical and cultural information. However, for the public, they are often viewed from a distance behind glass, lacking deep interaction and emotional connection. Our mission was to break down the barriers of time and display cases, allowing the public, especially the younger generation, to personally experience the ingenuity and wisdom of Han Dynasty architecture.
Solution & Design Philosophy:
In collaboration with the cultural and creative brand “豫来遇潮” (Yulai Yuchao), we fulfilled this cultural dissemination mission by creating a high-precision 3D building block set. We chose the classic Han Dynasty Pottery Tower as our prototype, transforming it from a static artifact into a dynamic, immersive cultural experience.

A Masterful Translation from “Artifact” to “Plaything”😗* The project’s greatest challenge lay in the precise interpretation and artistic recreation of the historical artifact. Our design team conducted in-depth research into the architectural structure of Han pottery towers, including core features like the multi-story pavilions, cantilevered balconies (平坐), rhomboid lattice windows, bucket arches (斗拱), and pottery figurines. Using 1100 precision pieces, we ingeniously “translated” and reconstructed these complex mortise-and-tenon structures and decorative details into the language of building blocks, ensuring the final product captured the artifact’s spirit while being a joy to assemble.
